Female Jungle Carpet Python Feeding?

grooter2 Jan 06, 2009 07:09 PM

I have a Female Jungle Carpet Python that was born June 2008. She is only six months old and I have had her for three weeks. She has eaten twice which I have her on a schedule of 1 F/T hopper mouse per week. My question is should I be feeding her more? I am planning on feeding her a f/t rat pinkie that is the equivalent size of a hopper mouse. I read a few care sheets that say to feed them when they are young 2-3 appropriate size mice every week. So am I under feeding her? Which could possibly explain her for being so nippy when I take her out; just joking I know they are nippy when they are babies.

Thanks,

Mike

i am not an expert but i feed mine 1 appropiate sized prey once a week until they are between 12 and 18 months old then females get fed every 2-3 weeks and males every 3-4 weeks i breed so its better for breeding if they are a bit on the thin side. for a pet same thing omly whether male or female you can feed every 2 weeks or so

hope this helps

One thing you'll notice if you go that route is pinks tend to lead to runny stools because of the lack of fur and bone development. My '08's are feeding on f/t rat fuzzies or pups at this point. Feeding for neo's is approx. every 10-14 days.

BTW, switching to rats at this point...GOOD MOVE

Thanks for the replies. I meant to say small f/t rat fuzzies, not pinkies, my mistake. I'm going to try giving her one tomorrow and see if she will take it. Crossing my fingers
