Mazuri Diet??

TNsnakeman Jan 06, 2009 07:23 PM

I have heard great things about Mazuri and have decided to start my gator which is 1 1/2 years old and 25 inches on it. My question is what is a good site to order about 5lbs of the small pellets from? I don't want to get a big bag until I know my gator will eat it. Also are there any tips on how to start my gator on it? How much/often should I feed if I only feed Mazuri pellets? Thanks for any help.

I honestly do not believe you'll have any trouble with your alligator feeding on the mazuri.. Once you toss it in the water, it will gobble it up. It may not recognize it as food "right" away but after the smell hits, he will.

try nature coast exotics. they specilize in crocodilians and if im right they have plenty of the mazuri feed.

One thing I would suggest with feeding the mazuri diet is not to completely remove whole food items from the diet. At the zoo I work at we use the mazuri more as a suplement and for training and the bulk of the diet is still whole food. Im not saying the mazuri is a bad diet it is accuially very good ive just always felt that a pre pacaged diet can never trully replace whole food items.

While in principle I don't disagree with you as a practical matter we have raised animals from hatchling to near adulthood on the Mazuri diet and the results are fantastic. The animals look excellent.

That is where I order my Mazuri. I keep it in the freezer to keep the bugs down.

I had no problem getting my little guy to switch. I just slowly added a few pellets when I fed crickets (he was a hatchling). Now I feed mostly Mazuri and supplement with whole rodents and chicks.
