boa feeding

lrptls Sep 09, 2003 04:36 PM

my red tail boa is almost 6 feet, she eats large and jumbo rats, but she refuses dead food (i usually paralized the rats and if there breathing, she'll constrict/eat them) i'v tried giving her frozen/thawd rats, i moved them around n touch her on the nose, one time i stood in front of her cage n moved a dead rat around for almost an hour. so i was thinking of trying a frozen thawd bunny, and maybe slitting its nose to make it a little bloody, you think she'll take it?

Try just leaving her in with the dead prey item for a while... My boa will take frozen/thawed prey but it usually takes him about 2 hrs of sitting inside a dark feeding tub before he'll start eating.. so I leave him in there for up to 4 hours with a prey item... (he's almost 7 ft long and taking large to jumbo rats)

i'v taken every thing out of my boas cage before and left her w/the dead food over night. this is a very picky snake. maybe i can find something a bit smaller to put her in w/the dead prey for hours. she also wont even take food that JUST died, even if its kicking, sometimes she waits 3-10 minutes to ever go to her food. i'll keep trying more and more things, i WILL get this snake to eat dead prey.
