Does she look like she has eggs?

katiehfnr Jan 07, 2009 01:22 PM

Wondering if my girl looks like she needs the nesting box place in her enclosure? i took several pictures of her. Her eyes have been blue for a few days so she is about to shed. I had a male in with her off and on over the last 2 months. never witnessed any hook ups. whatcha think

Usually when female corns are gravid they cant eat... they are so full of eggs they cant even stomach a mouse... when it gets close to depositing eggs breeders usually offer a fuzzy or something small to keep the snakes energy up... they are real lethargic and just kinda lay there.... here are 2 girls gravid pics from last year- notice how large they are in the lower 1/2 of their bodies...

Others have far more experience than I. That said, it's near impossible to tell. I know we've had snakes lay eggs we had no idea were gravid. Size of the eggs, and number is an issue. Also the size of a snake. A big female with 6 small eggs will be hard to tell. When a snake has a nice big clutch and not over weight it is easier.

There is an odd widening in pic #3. Lot's of question will come working off a picture. last time it ate, what size, last time defecated etc.

In a general guess I'd say no, but as stated the pictures don't show off the snake as needed for ppl to make an educated guess.

Photos straight down with the snakes body not touching itself in a coil. Angled pictures add a perspective view to them, and also the snakes body will start to hide other portions of its body. IF an angle picture the snakes body should be in line with the shot. Then you have to worry about DOF to make sure it is all in focus.

Hope it helps a little.

Typically the back 2/3's of the body becomes rather distended.. Sorry, I can;t tell by your pictures.. If the animal was never artiifically brumated to change ovalation times, I doubt it.. However she may be ovalating.. *shrugs*

an ovulation bulge? I've never watched for corns. I see them on boas many BCI and ball pythons. just my thought.

yeah- corns are usually "squared off" on the underside and when a female is ovulating or if any snake eats, it gets a rounded look... not as much as boas but you can still see a difference

Kin I remember reading some where it may have been in Kathy Loves book but a healthy corn should have the shape of a loaf of bread.
