Finally....

Joe Sep 09, 2003 04:45 PM

I think I finally have a gravid MHD. It took a year and a half since I got my first one to finally get it to happen. One of the capra WC females has been pretty chunky the past month and is starting to show a few lumps and is very flighty if I get near the enclosure. Problem is, right now she is in the enclosure that doesn't have any layer of soil on the bottom so and it takes easily 3 bricks of bed-a-beast just to cover the bottom an inch or 2 in the tank. I just don't have the money to go getting the bed-a-beast that costs $5 a brick and I would probably need at least 4 to get any areas deep enough to lay in. I am wondering if any of you have any better ideas for getting her some soil to lay in. I am guessing since she is getting lumpy it will be less than a month before she lays. I should also start getting the incubation stuff setup so I am ready when she does lay. Any suggestions?

Try mixing in some peat from a garden center. It should be cheeper and will hold the water fine once you get it wet. Like the bed a beast it will take time to soak up the water. Also, the peat worm bedding. These are all loose and dusty but once you get it soaked up it is great. Check out WalMart or Home Depot.

Good luck,
Marcia
