food-taking problem again...

patrickwang Jan 08, 2009 03:24 AM

i have been waiting for my carpet python to get comfortable about her new cage for 1 month. but she is still refusing to take food.
she is a 1.4 meter-long IJ carpet, now she is getting thiner and thiner. i've tried feeding her mice and rabbit unfortunately they didn't work.i even tried to force her to take dead mouse...
Now i am so worring about her. i don't know what should i do next...
some friends said it is just a time problem, because she wants sex...but i don't know will a female has this problem?
do you guys' carpet pythons have this kind of problem?

A month isn't a long time for an adult female python to get adjusted. Make sure she's got a nice hot spot, a hide box, clean water, and leave her be for a while. It's that time of year where some females will go off feed. Don't try and feed her very often. Every other week or so. And do you know what she was eating prior to you receiving her? IJs can be picky and sometimes they won't eat whatever you throw their way.

Hope this helps!

All of my males, and most of my females are off food right now. It's that time of the year.

Both my female Jungles and the big male have stopped for at least the last month. The only one still eating is a young adult male. He just doesnt know what he wants more. I think both. Sex and food!
