Retes stack question

Phiff1 Jan 08, 2009 08:18 AM

Hi there. I started making a stack for my juvenile Sav Monitor and started wondering if he(?) was just going to outgrow it in a few months. I am making the stack with 12" by 12" boards. Does anyone here have an opinion as to wether this will be useable for a few years? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,

Chris

That depends entirely on your conditions sir.

For an animal being fed everyday with access to hot temps...I dont think 12 by 12 would work well tomorrow. I have adult ackies and subadult their stacks range but the shortest is 20" long and 10" wide.

Goodluck,
Mike.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking. I was going by the Pro exotics site but then I noticed they were talking about young monitors. I think I need to wait until I have upped the cage size and then make a bigger stack at that point.

thanks

Don't get stuck on executing a particular build formula. As I cover in our Basking Stacks FAQ- apply the theory. Multiple levels of temp and protection.

This picture here is from an old Uro setup, located under basking lights. It is also a "Retes stack", but much different than a nicely stacked set. I believe Frank developed the technique after observing piles of junk in the field. Make up your own appropriate pile of junk. If it works, go with it, if it doesn't discard or improve : )
