All three options may yield good results. I went with Philbert and Howie and another chap aptly called Beaver (after the TV show you perv....) who, hands-down, is the finest rough green snake spotter I've seen this side of the Pecos.
The funniest part is that this was the first time I'd met Phil personally, and we were at the very bottom of the huge garbage heap -- I'm talking complete with tricycles and mattresses -- you name it. So we get to the bottom and in the corner of our eyes we see about six inches of black/white banded tail moving under a few final pieces of debris. Just short of knocking my a$$ over, Phil swoops down like a Marvel hero and we begin to tear the crap outta what was left, but unfortunately this trash pile was right next to super thick brush complete with thorns, etc etc. It was definitely an eastern getula. The good news is that Phil didn't hit me because he thought my two second delay was the root of the loss -- he's probably right. LOL.
But it got even better. Hah! We get to this God-forsaken pig farm owned by Filipino folks. We asked permission to check it out, and although not fluent in Tagalog (the national Filipino language) I was able to communicate in broken fashion but managed to impress my new friends. I lifted this huge tarp and scored a massive 5 foot eastern complete with thick bands and all, and as tame as a pup. We were then notified that other snakes are sometimes found out in their fenced-in field. Naturally, we make our way.
So, in single file, we make our way in.........Philly first, then me, the the Beav, and then.....LOL.....Howie. All was well except for one MINOR detail.......Howie forgot to close the fence door and allowed in....ohhhhh, say about FIFTY freakin' goats into where they were NOT supposed to be. HAHAHAAA!!! Man, this would have been an award winning scene -- all four of us herding goat by foot back out of the fence line. Like a scene from City Slickers...absolutely hysterical complete with "heeyaaa's!!" and "get along lil' dowgies!!". After fifteen minutes of this complete tomfoolery, it was mission accomplished. Suffice to say, I am doing everything i can to hang out with the fellas again this year.
So Phil,......Howie,...........WHAT'S NEXT??..............
