Breeding Mealworms quick..

ooohboy123 Jan 10, 2009 05:02 PM

Hey guys I was just wondering if you could help me figure out how to breed mealworms, I have I think just over 170 worms in a tub, What do the temps have to be what substrate is the best, by the way how long would it take for some regular size mealies to turn into the beetles.

Thanks, a lot Josh

they are easy :
in a high sided plastic tub(Sterilite)put about 4"s of wheat bran(feed store) and a couple plastic meal trays(Stouffers etc.) upside down on the bran and put some carrot and or potato slices under these trays so they dont dry out to quickly then put in the pupae and beetles in VOALA.Only put the pupae and beetles in the new container. keep the worms you have in a seperate container til they pupate and remove and put in the new breeder tub the worms tend to eat /kill the pupae and beetles for moisture, beetle too will eat the pupae another reason i believe the superworm needs to be isolated to pupate. And they seem to do best at a warm room temp. You may try putting the pupae in a meal tray right side up til they beetlize and release them into the bran (breeder tub)
