09 salmon harlequin poss jungles

patoquack Jan 10, 2009 05:51 PM

I just had my first litter for the year today.
Mom is an 04 normal Harlequin from Gray Rushin and the father is an 06 poss super salmon poss jungle from Pete Kahl. 14 healthy babies and 12 slugs. all were salmons and a few look like they could very well be jungles. I'm pretty stoked!
best of luck to everyone else!

Thanks for looking.

good job looks great

Thanks. It's hard knowing if these will be jungles since the harlequin gene produces aberrancies as well. plus, now after looking at them for a while, I'm going to have to wait till they shed to say for sure if they are all hypos.

any thoughts?

thanks again,
Patrick

Very nice looking babies. Having looked at harlequinboa.com's pic gallery , there are several Harlequins that could pass as Jungles based on looks. Breeding a possible Jungle to this line may only give you more questions than answers. All in all, they do look nice.

Beautiful litter. I see 3-6 I'd really say fit the Jungle bill to me.
I also see all lot of tail striping .Which I distinctly remember
Gray's '04 Harlequin litter having similar results of
tail stripes.
I see what you mean about the Salmon call.
For instance the first pic, baby on the right (?)
and the second pic baby (?) and couple others might be
smok'n Boas with a serious reduction in black.
Resulting in limited black tail borders.
That second pic baby has that "baby Harlequin color" look to me.
No matter what its a beautiful litter to be extremely happy about.

thanks for the comments.

I'll definitely post some post-shed pics.
I think I'm going to have to breed the salmon possible jungle to another normal female to know for sure if he is a jungle - or try breeding him to a known jungle to see if he produces supers.

either way, I'm really happy to have a litter of harlequins - salmon, normal or jungle - I know they are harlequins.

Thats a sweet litter, you definitely have some keepers!!

That's a tough call on those being Jungles or not the last few with the complete striping are definate contenders I'd say.. I'm no pro though! It seems when Jungles are crossed in to "some" other morphs they tend to muddy up a little.. or loose they'er colors and abberant paterns some!! Like I said I'm no PRO, just my 2 cents! The sire to that litter does look more on the Jungle side (just a few notches below a normal expression )..
Who knows maybe the Harlequin gene just freckled them up a bit, because that poss Jungle looks pretty clean compared to the Dame.. Give them a couple sheds or so and you'll have a better idea...

Congrats either way those are sweet!!

Nice Pat, I would have to say in my opinion your Jungle proved out. Congrats on the litter!

exactly why I haven't bred jungle to Harlequin though. How can one be certain where the abberancies and color and all are originating? Beautiful babies, but for me, I could NEVER guarantee they were Jungles just due to the combo. I am in know what trying to influence how you market them(if you let any go)because you are in the position to observe them close up and make the determination. It is also you who would back up the guarantee. Amazing litter! Can't wait to see them grow up. I too own a couple of possible super hypo harlequin possible jungles I picked up in trade last year and they are amazing animals. I am just unsure how I am going to use them to best weed out the truth of their genetics. Congrats again!

Thanks Ty,
I'd love to see some pics of your harlequin possible jungles.

I'll probably label these "possible" jungles unless something just starts to stick out really obvious. If I can prove the sire in another breeding or prove one of these males from this litter, then I could say for sure one way or the other.

Congrats on the litter! Those are some spectacular looking kids, I really like the chain-link type ones.

Personally, I'd prove out the poss jungle sire to be sure one way or the other. The babies don't really jump out at me as jungles although there are a couple where I can see some of the traits, it's hard to say for sure. (they might stand out more after the shed of course!)

Either way, congrats on a killer litter! I can't wait to breed my jungle male to a couple of my hypo harli females but I'm still a few years away from doing that. I've always thought harlixjungle would make some amazing babies (as well as harlixaby or junglexaby).

Take care,
-April

thanks,

I agree - hypo, Aby, Harlequin and Jungle - mix them all and see what happens! then make the albino and sunglow versions!
