Nice pics! Reminds me of a place I go called Snow Bank Lake here in MT. I've been to Snow Bank Lake a couple times when it looked like there was a big black ring arround the lake, it was millions of western toad tadpoles like the ones in yor pics, & on the bank there were thousands of little toadlets.
That red spotted garter is killer!

Sounds really similar to the slightly mis-named Frog Lake. We went back 6 weeks later, and you could barely walk without stepping on the freshly transformed toads.

I'm still a little jealous of your coluber constrictor catches. I know I've said it before, but in the brambles, those snakes can MOVE.

Nice pics

Some of the racers do make you move if you want to get a closer look at them. I dont bother with most of them I see, not to rub it in, but some days I see dozens of them

Where about is that? I understand if you don't want to get exact but it reminds of a place I used to camp up in colorado (although I don't think we got the same garters there...but the geography is really similar).

Assuming you're asking me (vs. Dan's MT location) I can give you an idea of where to head. What's your email address?

Very nice. Was that a Western Toad & W. toad tadpoles? The Garters must've been there for a meal. Happy herping.

They are.

Here's another one we found a little farther north. I love the red on this guy.

I know where that place is, I need to stop by there on my way to central Oregon this spring, it been a few years. I've found Charina Bottae around there as well. right now people are cross-country skiing at frog lake.
