Velvet

AbsoluteApril Jan 12, 2009 12:12 PM

Just sharing a couple quick pics of one of my holdback harlequins, Velvet.

Hmmm... she appears to have way outgrown her baby tub...

I love how clean this boa is.

Finally, some bigger digs. She was overdue for a larger enclosure and seems quite content. Can't wait until she's a couple years older...

Thanks for looking!

April:

Velvet is one of the nicest BCIs I have ever seen.

You must be very proud to have her in your collection.

Thanks Brian, that was a very nice compliment! She is deff. one of the top favorites in my collection. I wasn't going to keep any of the normal harlis from that litter but she just keeps getting nicer and nicer looking, I can't complain.

Thanks Ruben, that name just jumped in my head, she always looks like soft silky velvet.

Very nice. Can you show a pic of the rack you have her in? Id like to build one like that.

Hi Adrian,

Here's the details I wrote up about that rack on another forum:

It's a simple design and constructrion that measures 18"x24"x48". I made this rack to work with the Rubbermaid #2221 tubs. I got the tubs at cost through my work for around $8/each. For the wood I used 5 sheets of BC plywood 24"x48" and 1 sheet of pegboard (about $55 total at Home Depot). Alife Thermostat was bought at a local reptile show for $25, they average around $30 or so online and the flexwat heat tape I already had.

Use two of the 24"x48" sheets for each side. Cut the shelves out of the other sheets 24"x17". We made the top piece 24"x18" out of two pieces of scrap. Start by attaching the top to the two sides. Place the entire thing on it's top so it's upside down. Place the tub you want to use upside down with some towels or paper used as a spacer (to ensure there is space to slide the tub out).

Place the next shelf down against the tub and screw into place (1 at each corner). Repeat until all shelves are in.

Turn the rack and put in and tighten the remaining support screws and attach the back pegboard. (only attach pegboard to the sides but not the top so you can slide the heat tape up the back)

Ta-da! New rack! I'm 5'5" for size reference:

Then just add your heating elements, test the temps, drill holes in the tubs and you're good to go

Hope this helps!

That is one clean boa... You should put a pastel to it later.

Thanks Rich! I haven't decided what to breed her with yet... I may put her back to her hypo brother or to a jungle. Don't have a pastel male.

Hi Ash,

I need to go take some current pics as they've all gotten either lighter and pale or more colorful in the past 6 months. Here are some older pics of a couple of the other harli siblings:
same snake, her pics from about 7 months ago:

another one, this guy is very light now, this pic is a year old

This pic is also a year old, he looked deep buckskin but now his background color is super light, very odd since boas normally get more tan! I'll take some new pics this week, it's way overdue
