Adult/Hatchling Weights EBT

lilypad42 Jan 12, 2009 08:49 PM

Hi all,
I just got a scale for my turtles (as you can tell by my post below), and I was wondering if there is a weight standard for turtles based on age. Here are the measurements I collected today:

Hatchlings:
Murdock (3 mos) 10g
Higgins (3 mos) 10g
Chucknorris (3 mos) 8g
Bumblebee (3 mos) 10g

Magnum (3 yrs) 203g

Speedbump (Adult, age unknown) 538g

I didn't weigh my hibernating pair since they have FINALLY settled down.

Should I worry about the 2g difference between Chucknorris and the other hatchlings? I know it doesnt seem like much, but is that significant when they are that small?

Do the weights of the other turtles seem healthy for their ages? I know that Speedbump may be a little heavy since she doesn't get a lot of exercise (only two working legs), but she doesnt LOOK overweight. What is the average weight of your adult EBTs?

Thanks,
Lisa

Those weights look good to me. The nice thing about having a gram scale is now you can see immediately if one of your hatchlings starts loosing weight, and can start giving it special care and attention to correct the problem quickly. I keep all my hatchlings in the same area and I notice from time to time one will not be able to compete for food and will loose a gram or two. I can then isolate the little guy to his own area and get him back on track quickly.

Hey, we named the smallest of our 3T hatchlings Chucknorris also. That's kinda funny. He'll be 2 months old this weekend. Don't know what he ways though.

It's the end of the week.. You are forgiven

It's crazy you named yours Chucknorris also... I didn't think that would be a very popular name! We are always repeating those Chuck Norris quotes... for example:

There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of creatures Chuck Norris has allowed to live.

It's funny to give such a "powerful" name to a little baby turtle.

Here's a pic of our chucknorris
