White Lipped Python Off Feed

drphibes Jan 12, 2009 09:50 PM

I have a male WLP that has been off feed now for two months. The temps and humidity in his enclosure are good and have been the same since I have had him. He is around 4 years old now, so I am thinking he might just be looking to mate. I have examined him and his weight is good, he has no signs of RTI. His mouth is clear and healthy looking. He is very active, but just plays with his food. I feed frozen thawed. I think I might try a live mouse to see his response. Just want to see others experience. He has never refused food before. Thanks.

Robert

It's breeding season. He's hungry for a mate, not food.

Agreed...just give him some time....he'll come around. Males that eat in the winter make me nervous (from a breeding standpoint).

Mike, are you going to be at Carlisle this month?

I agree with the others here -- I wouldn't be worried just yet. My males get finnicky this time of year. As I cycle I won't feed the larger one for several months!

I appreciate all the reply's. I thought that might be the case, but it has never happened to me before.
