Pics of Babies from Cheri

grimdog Sep 09, 2003 07:32 PM

Hey Cheri here are 4 pics of the little ones. Can see there weights and tried to get close ups. The bigger one looks much better, the little one is a little frustrating. But she is doing all right all in all. The bigger one is showing hints of some very nice color. It is exciting. Well here are the pics.

Sorry for the poor pics on some of them lazy night haven't slept well the last two nights.

weighted July 1!!! So that is really good. Also, if you think about that the other weight only 5 grams then, it more than 4 times its weight in 2 months..... thats not bad either, looks like it has gained another 5 grams while with you.... I think just destined to be small.... did sshe settle down some?

Yeah the little one isn't as spazy, just doesn't like an audience to eat. Which is annoying. She isn't as spastic when you walk over to her cage anymore. And is handleable. The bigger one is such a trip to watch though.

These are two of my hatchlings from last year, same clutch, 9 weeks old.
There were 15 larger ones that were 11"-11.5" Then there were two little squirts.
I kept the 2 runts and a year later they are nice big beardies.

who are related. they came in two groups of four. Usually I only take in 3 failure to thrive dragons at a time and that keeps me pretty busy with my other permanent dragons. It just worked out that this time after the first 4 smaller healthy appearing ones arrived, we had four others that had not been under any UVB, were loaded with parasites and very thin that needed care right away.

The first group were in good condition, just small and we did get all those growing some, we think their smallness is genetic line and they will never be real big. One of those did takeoff like crazy. The second group was poor husbandry, not enough light intensity and UVB. Once those were added to them, and the parasites and worms treated, they took off eating and growing like crazy! Those four were all 1-2 years old and all gained over 100 grams in 6 weeks and continue to grow. We think they will make it to normal size.

and I'm sure between you and Grimdog, they are getting the best chance possible.
I wasn't sure what was going on with my two runts, evidentally nothing much..lol
They are both fine. Taadaa was the first to hatch and PeeWee was right behind him. I thought the first to hatch would be the largest and strongest but that was wrong.
My intention was to keep them a bit longer then the others, I didn't feel good about selling them, not knowing if they were too small or needed special care. Even though they were over 2 mo old, they just weren't growing.
They never did have huge growth spirts, but grew steadily..
Peewee looks long and thin, but that is his Fathers body type too. Peewee is 19 1/2" long now (he's the little one in the previous pic).

little ones, the fact they are growing some and gaining weight tells me they can, maybe just need to change the care they are getting, I really think that the Florida sun helps them as four of them we know had good care previously. That and the cricket gut load is about the only thing that changed for them.

I think there is still some hope. My little boy slick was about 20 grams until he was 6 months old or so and then something turned on. He is now over 300 grams at a little over a year. It is like all of a sudden they realize crickets are good and that they should eat a ton of them. My wife thought he would be a mutant midget all his life. Once he started to eat I told her to wait and see that he would grow big and strong. And he has and continues to do so. So hope is never lost, just becomes a very dim light at times.
