Box Turtle Egg Incubation question...please give me any advice

specieschick May 24, 2003 11:33 AM

my box turtle laid 3 eggs and at the present moment, i have them in a deli-type container surrounded and covered by moistened bed-a-beast substrate (it looks like an alligator nest mound). the container is sitting in a large rubbermaid enclosure halfway covered. on the open side, i have a 65 watt light bulb in a clamp fixture beaming down on the eggs at all times to keep the 80 degree temperature. i have been misting water on the substrate whenever it begins to dry out. my question is if this set-up is alright. if anyone could give me any advice i would be much obliged. i want to make sure i will have little babies in about 2 to 3 months. thank you for your help.

As long as you do not allow them to dry out box turtle eggs are among the easier ones to incubate. The method I use is at this link:

Emergency Incubation Techniques

If for some reason the link above does not work you can also reach this by going to the link below - clicking "Articles" then "Breeding and incubation".
