Been an idiot with my Cali King

donbot Jan 14, 2009 03:00 PM

I have an albino cali king which I bought as an adult (my first and only snake) and we used to be very close, he was out with me almost every day. When I had my second child I admit he was neglected.. He was always fed, watered and cleaned but I didn't get him out for a long time. Please don't tell me how awful I am...I know!!!
The problem is that he seems now to be not used to be human contact and has become very aggresive. He shakes his tail and strikes whenever I go near him, which I have to admit makes me nervous. How do I get him used to me again without getting hurt in the process?! Someone please help me get my relationship back with my baby boy!

i had this problem with a corn snake but he was aggressive as a result of a retarted previous owner but i took him out with a snake hook for awhile then took him out to feed him and eventually he calmed down. also dont appear nervous to the snake show him some confidence if your nervous and afraid of him he will be the same towards you
good luck

cheers mitch

I agree with the first post. Also, be prepared to be bitten. If the snake is nervous, it might happen. Just try not to jerk away if the snake bites you.

Good luck!

P.S. I don't think you're a bad keeper. I've done plenty of things that don't make sense, and my snake's "special-ness" reflects that.

Although some might have different views on taking your kings out and feeding them in another enclosure, it certainly is a good idea here.

It offers you a weekly opportunity to interact with your snake while knocking out feeding(has to be done anyways) at the same time. Just handle for a couple of minutes prior to feeding (and touching the mouse!) and then presume to feeding..........there two things knocked out at once.

Agreed with the previous answer......no hesitation! Just pick it up, might get bit but you should be expecting that. Also, the hook idea wasn't bad either....once it is on the hook, it is much easier to handle it with your hands.
