You can cover the screen tops with anything that keeps the heat in the tank and the cold air out.. Back when i used to keep snakes in tanks I used zip lock bags to cover the screen tops and that worked well.

The very best thing is, Old Reptile magazines. hahahahahahahahaha Yes that works, and you can read them too.

Anything non porous. And it good all times of the year.

If you use any heat source, it will also heat the air and hot air raises. This takes humidity out of the substrate and the snake and sents it out the top.

By covering the top, you and use far less heat, which is a very good thing.

If I am going to use glass tanks, I make my own plastic tops. Good luck

I have used pegboard to cover screen tops. It greatly reduces airflow without stopping it all together.

I have also covered screen tops with cardboard. I leave about 1/4 inch of exposed screen on all sides for some air exchange.

I drap old t-shirts over my tanks at times, especially during sheds cycles when I spray water on the substrate to raise humidity. The undertank heaters steam it up a bit and once shed is done and cover removed it dries up quickly...seems to work well enough.

I used to do this too, only with old pillowcases. It worked okay, but it worked better for me when I started using the plastic lids from my Sterilite feeding boxes. They hold more heat/humidity than the fabric.

i drape a towel over the cage, it seems to be working well...
