Question on moist hides

cw_skater Sep 09, 2003 08:39 PM

Both of my geckos are around a year and a half old now and neither of them go in the moist hide anymore. Even when they are about to shed i watch them closely and i never see them go in it. Any suggestions.

Is your moist hide on the warm end of the tank? That could be the problem.

i find that i rarely catch my adults in their hides, but i discovered that they do go in there much more often than i thought. they track sand inside! also, many leos avoid shedding in front of people b/c (in nature) it's a vulnerable time for them. make sure your hide is clean, and actually moist (they tend to dry out periodically). and definitely situate it away from the heat-source. also, make sure it has an easily-accessible design. also, make sure it's an appropriate size- an adult needs a bigger hide than a single juvie. o- one more thing- i recently changed the design of one of my hides, and my girls hated it... i eventually realized that the 'door' was too big- they didn't feel sheltered inside, they felt exposed. so i made a new one with a smaller 'door' cut out, and now they like it much better.

The moist hide is close to the undertank heater. it is big enough for them. i'll try making another one and see how it goes. Thanks for the replies.
