My musk turtle won't eat

gwiziwg Sep 09, 2003 08:39 PM

I have had a small musk tutle for 10 days now, and it refuses to eat anything. We have feeder fish in the tank with it, and have been giving it Reptomin. Tried feeding it in the tank, and in a seperate container. Tried feeding it morning, and evening. Tried waiting a full day with no food available to make it miss it.....(all these were recommended by the guy we bought it from). It has not even acted interested. Help! Any suggestions would be VERY appreciative! Thanks

i'd say try earth worms, red wiggler worms, crickets, wax worms and meal worms. I've not seen mnay musks that can catch fish.
The pellets will likely be taken after he has been eating other stuff.

You might want to check the husbandry ; its probbaly good to give the turtle a few different depths of water and a few places to hide (both in deep water and in water shallow enough that there is an air space in the hide)

Also try offering food under dim lights or in partial darkness...many musks eat at night.

If its still no good in another week....find a vet (a good idea for every new animal anyway) a REPTILE vet (not a dog/cat vet or bird vet or farm vet) and have them do blood work and a fecal .
