Dumb Question

Keeferton Jan 15, 2009 06:57 PM

I am a new owner of Keeferton, my RFT. This is probably a dumb question but I was wondering if I can house him with another RFT. I feel like if he's going to live for 50 years, he should have a companion. BUT I DONT WANT TO BREED THEM! So my questions:

Do they have to be the same age-ish? (I Have no idea how old he is)
Can they be the same sex?
Do RFT's even NEED a friend in their cage or are they more solitary creatures????

Hi I have a Cherry Head Redfoot...my first tortoise. I got him as a month old hatchling, and at the same time I got a month old Three Toed hatchling. I put both of them in a 75 gal vivarium. The Cherry Head followed the three toed around all the time and even went into the same hide (I had two hides in the viv) to sleep. The Three Toed couldn't care less.
When I posted this on another forum, I was told that this is a "No, NO", so I took the Three Toed out. My CH didn't eat for three days and paced around his viv all day. The Three Toed just ate and did everything as usual and never even looked for my CH. I though the CH was going to get sick, so I put them back together. He started to eat and was back to following the Three toed around. I don't know if this means anything, but this Spring the Three Toed goes outside for good in a large outdoor pen. Don't know what will happen to the CH because he will have to come in for the winter. I don't know if he missed him or not, but there was a definite change in his behavior.
