Ohhhhh. That's just not right!
It seems like such non-adaptive behavior -- I suspect it doesn't happen much in the wild . . .
we will only see them in the wild if they regurgitate
lol
I bet in the wild they will eat another snake instead.

I would suspect that repeat incidents are rare.

Nice pics guys. I have not seen that first one before.
Would you guys mind if I saved those images? You never know when you might want to show something like that again.

The picture I posted was on slashdot yesterday. Not my snake.
I did have a king momentarily grab its own tail once, while trying to eat a masticophis.
It quickly spit it out, but I was able to get one pretty bad picture of it first. Nothing like the pictures already posted, but I'll see if I can find it.
Honestly, I think the only way a snake would eat its own tail the way those in the pics are, is if the owner chain fed it to it (stuck its tail into its mouth as it was finishing another meal). I dunno.

if the back half of that snake is related to the front half?

my florida kings frequently eat their own eggs as they are coming out. I dunno what is causing this but I am not about to take a pic of one eating its own eggs when I can save the egg.
Alsao the females that are doing this are offerred food before laying and refuse the regular fare of mice. Even after they lay, they take a couple days rest before they feed on mice.
This egg eating thing has happened the last 3 years and each year more females are eating their own eggs as they deposit them staright out of the vent. Talk about frustrating ~

post pardom depresion mabey ??????? can they get that
maby another chance at some calcium
dogs eat there own poop to regain nutrients
with FL kings from various areas around the state. I discovered my first FL king clutch by noticing the female nosing an egg in her cage. Don't know if she wanted to eat it or what. No idea why they do it... FL kings definitely eat turtle eggs. Me and some friends caught some brooksi recently, and a few of them were stuffed with eggs. I'm sure they eat snake eggs as well.
I would try giving my kings some added calcium after mating. It sounds like your female is needing the calcium and getting it from the eggs shes eating.
Good Luck Blue!
