The Female that produced the original female is what Tom B. has dubbed the "special". Here is a pict of some Specials produced from my Crystal Mojave. HALF the clutch(s) were regular mojaves and the other half of the clutch were specials. This seems to suggest the special is on the same allele as the mojave.

Sorry,
the post should have read the "original female that produced the first Crystal".
I see that the special is not your run of the mill normal, but I would not be able to pick them out from other "special" looking normals. What are the markers that differentiates them from normals?
Derek
The Crystal or Special gene is typically an orange or redish ball with belly markers and some blushing on the sides. I dont think it is a common mutation. Out of all the specials i made this past year they all looked very alike. I will keep everyone updated as they grow. This upcoming year should add some new crystal combos, i personally cant wait til the Crystal Jigsaw or Crystal Kingpin is produced.

Such a beautifull animal. Boy I sure hope I get the chance to work with em some day . . . . .

Thanks for your answers guys, that throws my theory out the window, i had the thought that the normal female may have been a mojave sibling, then bred to the mojave to produce the crystal, rather like the lesser x sibling produces the platty.
Any chance you could post pics of the belly markers? I have become rather intrigued by the markers of various morphs.
