Question about living

BCRherps Jan 17, 2009 03:36 PM

I have a few questions about living requirements for a Ball

I already have a Ball Python living in a 20 gallon(temporarily) tank and I was planning to find a pretty boy to breed with her but I was wondering before I do that if I can house them together until I can get him a setup(which could last a few months) Or even if I could do it for life(which probably wouldn't happen anyway all I need is a greater chance of that top being opened xD)

Thanks for your help and I would appreciate it if nobody calls me an idiot or anything for asking I already know that housing two Reptiles together isn't always ideal in certain cases

It's never a good idea to house 2 snakes together, except during breeding, and even then it's temporary.

Chances are nothing will happen, but I just wouldn't do it, especially with a new male. Who knows what he could have, anything from mites to internal parasites or bacteria or even the dreaded incurable IBD. New snakes should be quarantined in another room for a few weeks or months ideally.

If that hasn't deterred you enough check this out - http://www.rcreptiles.com/forum/about1343.html

It's pretty cheap to just get a plastic container from Target and set up heat tape or a UTH to it and you're set once you put some holes in it. Cheaper than vet visits or worse - the loss of your current snake.
