Maritimes in Maine

WebDragon8 Sep 09, 2003 10:15 PM

During late August I got to spend three weeks roaming around the woods of Maine just north of Millinocket. Over that time I caught seven garters and one little gray ringneck. I'll post a couple of pics of the garters here. The snakes that I ran across had two distinct color patterns: blue-bodied with red checks and greenish skin, and yellow/brown bodied with red checks and greenish skin. Are these both varieties of maritimes? Never had the pleasure of catching them before. Kinda sorry I didn't get the chance to keep 'em...

The previous message's picture was one of the two bluish snakes I ran across, the one below is of the yellowish ones.

Beautiful snakes.
The second one with lots of green is the best in my opinion.
Do you know what the legal status of Maritimes is in Maine?
