Upgraded some cages this weekend...

rainbowsrus Jan 19, 2009 01:33 AM

In my boa room are two three high stacks of really nice melamine cages, roller doors, cabinet grade melamine, well sealed and very well constructed. Each individual cage had dual Dial proportional thermostats, one controlling a CHE on the ceiling and the other controlling flexwat under the floor. I never liked the dial thermostats and CHE so took all that out and installed RHP's all aroound. While I was at it I removed the pedestals from the upper two cages shortening the stacks by a foot. Plenty of roon to put a fourth cage on top. Each stack is now controlled by one Herpstat Pro, one channel per cage.

Before....

After....

And the girls.....

Jasmine, Albino Arabesque, bred by Chester, Sunglow...

Ruby, Coral Albino, bred by Nick Stones Hypo Cyclone...

Coral, Coral Albino, bred by Heath, Motley...

Amber, Super Salmon pos Jungle, bred by Woody, Jungle...

Tootsie, Anery het Albino bred by York, Albino het Anery...

Cinnamon ovulated last Friday night, swelled up like a goodyear blimp. She is a Poss Super Salmon (my second nicest Salmon) bred by Reeses (my nicest Salmon). Looking forward to some killer salmons from these two......

Candy, CBLT bred by a Cherry Salmon

Gypsy, reverse stripe bred by Tahoe, a 2004 Summit Salmon.

Spirit, Ghost bred by Casper pos Super Ghost

Crystal, DH Snow bred by Fireball TH Moonglow (same pairing that produced my Moonglow Luna last year)

Sierra, Albino pos het Anery, bred by Toffee, Anery pos het Albino, got all my fingers crossed on this one...

Vanilla, proven Super Ghost bred by Lucky, het Coral Albino, pos het Anery. Jusgt for fun gttried tub breeding these two. They didn't seem to care but is hard to check on them without disturbing them. Probably my last atempt at tub breeding, I really like cages where I can just look in and see what;s going on.

Vanilla in her new digs from this weekends cage upgrade...

Thanks Lar, Yeah I'm pretty excited with my projects this year. Several projects to preove genetics and evem more with known outcomes.

One I'm really watching is my Albino Arab x Sunglow, Jasmine (the arby) is also technically a paradox, one scale is partially black...

I noticed your cages do not have hide boxes. I've seen other big name breeders do the same. Are hides really necessary? I always thought it would stress out a snake not being able to secure itself.

rainbowsrus Jan 19, 2009 10:52 AM

I go back and forth, the larger snakes don't seem to care. I do provide hides for all the smaller ones.

Looks like you have alot to look forward to. Weren't you injured and kinda "forced" into earning a living with your animals? I am only asking because that is what has happened to me and I though I remembered reading that in a post of your's awhile back. Good luck with ALL your breedings!

Thanks Ty, Must be confusing me with another, not injured and not forced into animals. Working with them fully by choice, took me a while but I finally figured out what I want to be when I grow up!!

What made you switch to those type of cages? Good luck with your pairing!

Take care,

Kevin

rainbowsrus Jan 19, 2009 04:25 PM

I bought them several years back from Barry Berg when he retired. Bought his entire cage collection. Stored them for a bit and put them in service about two years ago and really like them. Even more so now that I scrapped the pedestals!!!

Very nice Dave. Jasmine's babies should be something to look at!

Yeah, I'm sure you figured out she was paired up with one of your Sunglows. The babies should be amazing!!! If you didn't catch it in one of my replies, she ovulated last night/this morning!!!!

Dave, looks good...both snakes and cages. Wow, what a small world. I saw those cages at Barry's place in SoCal back in 2002 when I started getting into boas.

Not to mention your 2007 Sunglow will eventually breed in the same cage his mom was born in, in 2002, 350 miles away...lol.

Good luck with the season!

Thanks Dave,

Yeah small world, I have a DH Sunglow from Barry's 2004 litter. Possibly being bred in the cage she was born in.

Hey Dave,

Good looking upgrades to your boa room!!!

Also looks like your boa breeding season is off to a great start. Awesome pairings as usual. Good luck with all of them and hope you have a whole lotta baby boa mouths to feed in a few months.

Regards,

Jay
