Blood/Shedding?

snakeeyes1618 Jan 19, 2009 06:42 AM

So this morning i was checking on my girl becasue i knew she was going to shed and I always like seeing her color afterwards. When I was pulling her shed out i noticed that there was blood on it (small amount) So I took her out and saw a tiny bit of dried blood around the vent and on her spurs. I keep her on Kaytee Aspen that can be bought at any pet store chain. I havent had any poblem with this in the past but i have heard of stories of this hapening. Just wanted to know if any of you have had this problem and if so should i be worred? SHould I change over to newspaper?

Oh by the way the temps are low at about 80-85 and humidity is 50-60.

Seeing a bit of blood after a shed is normal.

Seeing a LOT of blood is a bad sign.

A little blood with shedding does happen on occasion just like LadyOhh said. Has nothing to do with substrate that I know of. I use paper towels as a substrate and I will see a faint little drag mark of blood on the paper towels after a shed sometimes.

Don't go looking for snakes--you might find them.

Good to see someone else who uses papertowels as substrate.. I really like it, its easy, clean, sanitary, I love using it.

I too have noticed a time or two little tiny spots of blood after a shed. I never have figured out where its comming from, the vent I suppose. But I could never see anything wrong with them after they shed, no place where the blood came from. And on Paper Towels it seems most noticable.

Welcome to the club I also use paper towels for all my snakes. I really like it too, its easy, clean, sanitary, and don't have to worry about them ingesting any loose substate when they eat. The small amount of blood seems to be normal usually when they shed easy to notice on paper towels... :O)

The same thing happened to my big female the first time she shed and i went through the same thing, but as long as its just a little it is nothing to worry about.
