How often feeding an adult beardie ??? Opinions needed please !

Jennie Sep 09, 2003 11:11 PM

Hello,
Have had my 2 males that live in different setups now for over a yr. ! They have been ours since they were about 2 months old. They were 1 yr. Apr. of this yr. & not sure on how often to be feeding them crixs or greens ? What about baths, misting, & dusting also ! I have been feeding them 3 x's a week crixs, about 20 each feeding. I was trying to narrow that down some. I also wasn't sure about the greens ? I was doing that everyday , but , they wasn't always eating that & it seemed like a waste of food & time , so I cut way back. If I narrow down the crix thing , what about dusting ? If feeding 3 x's a week , I gave them Miner-All I on Mon. & Fri. & just did Herptivite on Wed. only ! So if feeding less crixs , is it going to hurt dusting less ? Also , how often on the misting or bath thing ? Not sure if the change is going to be right & just wanted to see what others sugguested ???

Thanks for all your advice & opinions !

Jennie

This is something that really varies. I can tell you my feeding schedule and hope that helps you out.

I feed greens, veggies and fresh fruit daily. I drizzle liquid calcium on the salads 3 times a week (all my beardies are adults).

I feed superworms injected with various things every other day about 4 supers each. I alternate what I inject the worms with. (I know this sounds disgusting, but when you get the hang of it it's really not all that bad.) One day I will inject liquid calcium mixed with acidophilus and liquid vitamin B complex. The next day just liquid calcium, and another day liquid calcium mixed with Centrum liquid multi vitamin. Sounds complicated, I know, but I haven't had any problems and by doing it this way I know how much vitamins and calcium each dragon is receiving.

I hardly feed crickets anymore. I used them when my dragons were small and growing up. But I've found they they like superworms better. I plan on trying silkworms and butterworms in the near future also.

I hope this helps. If you want any info on the calcium or supplements that I talked about just check out my website (below) and click on recommended products.

Feed greens daily. I always leave a bowl of greens or pellets in the tanks so that if they get hungry throughout the day they can eat. I've never come home to a bowl that is full. I only feed supers or crix a couple times a week now. But my beardies are 1yr (still gets daily protein-supers), 5 years and 4 years.
