Acclimating U. Phantasticus

Solomon Sep 09, 2003 11:21 PM

Hi there,

I recently picked up a pair of U. Phantasticus and was wondering if I should be doing anything, or looking out for anything during the first few weeks. Their cage is a 20 gallon tall, sprayed at least twice a day and the temps are good, 78 in the day 72 at night. I'm feeding them 1/4 crickets, but haven't seen them eat yet. They are small right now, 2 1/2" at best. There are lots of places for them to hide, moss, plants, sticks. I haven't been able to find any info on his subject.

Thanks.

try lowering the temps.also you might want to make it a 20 long instead of a 20 tall. they love floor space. i have my ebanuie as well as phantasticus cages hevily planted with pothos plants.you might also want to plant a naturally planted terreruim. also the light might be to bright. try small grasshoppers. nothing like grasshoppers works to get a feeding response out of those little guys like some wild bugs. where did you aquire your pair from. i was just wondering because i am trying to nail down a second pair of them.also you might want to look up robert gundy care sheets for u phantasticus. they are great and veryy informative. hope this could help.

I picked them up at a reptile expo in Toronto, the guy I got them from lives in Halifax, NS. I'm not sure if he ships outside of canada, but you could try hunting him down on the Kingsnake.ca website. He'd be in the classifieds selling "Rare Geckos"

I plan on putting some pothos in with with them soon, but as for lowering the temps, how can I do that? Right now they're at room temperature. Any ideas?

Thanks again.

as dumb as it sounds try measuring the heat from the bottom levels of the tank. heat rises so if your thermometer is on top then your tank will seem higher.also try using screw type bulbs the heat seems to go faster away from them then other bulbs. my phantasticus/ ebaunies are kept at about 72-74. good luck and i hope it works.

I've got a digital thermometer, and the probe is set at the bottom of the cage. I'll try a reading from the top. I don't have any lights on them at all and the room temp is 72 -75, which keeps the tank at about the same temp. Right now they're in a 20 gallon tall, and I'm thinking about moving them into a 10 or 5 until they grow a bit more.

Thanks for your help.
