Blue phase Rhino Ratsnakes are pretty darn blue. I can't seem to find a picture of one anymore, though. The website that had some great pictures of them seem to be having problems with their images now. Someday I will have me some of those!

Ok, well I found a picture on the web that is close to the blue Rhino Rat, but I have seen bluer. They aren't crayon blue or anything, but still pretty neat I think.

there are blue chondro pythons that are remarkably beautiful. . But (to me), if they were'nt so beautiful they would be the most worthless snake (they go for a few hundred bucks and up).

CONS:
1)Huge teeth (used for catching birds) leave a nasty wound
2) they DO Bite (a small few can be handled )
3)Large encloser
4)not bullet proof as compared to other snakes (ie ehat , light himidity ect)

PROS:
Make a great display animal

I must say, I didn't know you had that much experience with chondros. I can say they do have sizable teeth, but not as large as some people make them out to be. The extreme teeth are found on ETBs. As for temperment, I have had probably 80-100 chondros in the last 15 years and only a HANDFUL of sub-adults and adults have attempted to bite. I have WC imports that are as calm as any cornsnake I've ever held. Once babies are established feeding, they are BULLETPROOF. Adults can be kept in tubs, bred in tubs, and trive in tubs. I have done it. I like my adults in display enclosures so I don't use tubs for adults any longer. They do not need any special lighting. Ambient room lighting is enough. Temps from 74-85 during the day and 72-78 at night. Cycling temps of 66-76 at night with a 82-84 degree basking spot at night. They feed readily, only crap about 1-2x a month and only need one meal item per week.....some males only once a month. They are the EASIEST captives I've ever cared for.

As for genetic blue chondros, babies start at around $2K for a yellow and $3-3.5K for a red. Changes yearlings can fetch $6-10K and adults usually around $20K. That is a lot of brooksi clutches. Even WC imported blue animals run several thousand dollars and there is a huge demand for them.

Enjoy

Well all the captive born babies I have handled and seen bite. A close friend of mine also works with these and has a large collection and he will tell me the same. You probably know him! Maybe people working with them will tell you that only a few bite. I have heard the same thing with people selling blood pythons. I would not want to get bit by any one of them.

But they are beuatiful display animals IF you have the setup. I am sure they would not survive under the same conditions I keep my kingsnakes in.

Yes, it's good when babies bite.....with any snake species. Bity babies usually mean good feeders. I've had baby chondros that just flat out refuse to bite though. FWIW, I keep all my snakes in the same room. Sometimes my temps drop to 65. No worries. Chondros are easy.

I cant understand why you guys want to change the natural colors of snakes to candy colors. Isn't pink bad enough now you want blue ?

I'm glad they don't make pink dogs

Sometimes I think the kid with two pet snakes has something that those of us with 50 to 200 lost a long time ago.
