eastern hognose food

jasoncdll Jan 21, 2009 09:08 PM

I just got a adult eastern hognose. I know out in the wild they eat toads and frogs. My question is i heard somewhere that feeding easterns a mice diet will cause them to die at a early age. anyone out there had any long term captives that have done good on mice? Help please. I just want someones advice who has had expereince with easterns. thanks jason

I've raised several easterns sucessfully thru the years and,Imo the biggest thing to avoid is overfeeding and hair.I start mine on mouse pinks and move up to rat pinks as they grow larger. There are more experienced people on here that will hopefully chime in! Jeff

A mouse has a lot more caloric value than a toad, but similar volume to a mouse, so keepers often feed similar amounts, when less mice are needed for ideal growth.
