I have been asked to rescue a Beardie

ravingphule Jan 22, 2009 04:27 PM

Hi

I usually post to the Uromastyx board, however I have a question specifically related to beardies...i have been asked to rescue a 3 month old beardie...

What is the recommended UV light for them? I believe tank temps should range from 100 degrees on the hot to 80 degrees on the cold...

The greens mix is similar to What I feed my Uro Aloysius, but i know I am going to have to buy Crickets and Gut load them...

any links or suggestions will be greatly appreciated...I want to be well informed before making my decision to take in this bearded Dragon...

Thank you!

As you are familiar with Uromastyx..you can pretty much keep your dragon in much the same way..they need the same size cage as an adult (4'x2' of floor space or more), can be kept on sand but for young dragons best not to. Basking temps isn't quite as high, range of 100-120F (basking sites set up so dragon can choose in that range or a little above, what he likes best). UVB should be 8.0 or 10.0 florescent tubes or if you have a tall enough tank, use of a MVB is fine.

There are many good articles on bearded dragon care available linked here via our many sponsors (banners to many are in the bearded dragon forum list), as well as many just a google search away. Reading the last several days of posts below this one will also bring quite a bit of information about husbandry issues.
