Personally, I believe there is an evolutionary connection between drymarchon and elapids. Particularly Australian elapids. Certainly, one cannot deny the similarities. And we all know that the continents were not always as they are now.I have also witnessed first hand the anti-coagulant properties of an indigo bite, suggesting a possible one time connection, and subsequent evolutionary divergence upon continental seperation. Also the somewhat similar flaring of neck tissue during threat response may be note worthy.
One might also note the small physiological differences between the Texas indigo and the Florida indigo. Presumably caused by the Mississippi River, which serves as a definate boundry between the two species' ranges.
