Do you know what these containers are?
They have no brand name. They are clear, the lid just sits on top. They came with a rack of unknown origin. I put the holes in the containers. The only distinguishing marks are the circular designs on the lid. I have seen these containers in use, in older snake books, but no mention of name or origin. The bins / tubs are big enough to hold a yearling, maybe a small 2 year old corn.

Can anyone help me out?

FIRST PHILLIPS
Good luck. They're outta business now, but if you find out anything from this old contact information, let us know. Many of us would like to get more of them.

yea....old stuff......!

why I bought 100 of them long ago from a guy.....should have seen the Monte Carlo....filled top to bottom all around...could not see to drive....that was fun when I had to change 4 lanes for the exit coming up...! wow...(listen for horns)....add 2 qts oil halfway home and made it fine......still have a bunch NOT even used at all yet...the taller ones....(no I won't sell them) (last time I gave a guy a break and sold him some I said "pay what you want"...he gave me like $4 ? $5 a box???? what the hey...they go for $12 and more last time they were sold......no more selling......I still have 2 racks that hold them...40 boxes per rack.....I got the 100 on top of about 60 or so I already had???.....

they aren't really around...they break easily.....they are too small except for young stuff......go for bigger boxes...it's worth it......

I need replacement lids for the 25 or so I have sitting in the garage without lids. The rack that i have will only fit these tubs.
Well, actually, they will fit one other shoe box sized tub, but those are no longer made either!

Just a thought, if the heigth is teh only issue for a new tub and youhave extra space, you could glue the proper thickness of panel to teh interior top to create a fit to a new tub. You could do the bottom is no heat tape. Even then it may be possible.

Just a thought. For years I wanted to start a business doing husbandry stuff. Racks are always on my mind but not shippale. But i think of ways to make them adjustable. Just to avoid teh issue you have.

Good luck

We have some of those at the shop. Scarey Don new the name and model. But you might be a herper if you know a 1976 model of a plastic tub.

yea they crack, but teh lids hang way down if you use lids.

Steralite needs a reptile division.

1976?....LOL.they were around a little longer than that...1992 I got some...they were around longer....then Phillips broke their mold for the larger boxes, rumors of them being made in Canada with another mold, then stopped the smaller boxes and shorter larger ones etc etc etc....they are 11" x 16".....

you didn't know they were First Phillips from One Acton Place in Acton Mass?....everyone knows that.....Ha.....(I only remember cause it's simple and they were such a pain to get....you could ship them ,we would buy them by the dozen,,,then get alot at shows so they weren't broken... then they stopped insuring them unless you got a whole skid of them,,,,which Mr Zuchowski actually would do...just buy the whole skid.......well....he probably could have used the whole darn truck anyways.....still can.....as Don and many others can ......

anyways........yes I wish they still made them......I cry whenever I actually drop one........but I'm good for decades yet at the rate I am dropping or breaking them.......they are really too small for corns, yet I used them now for 18 years?.....they are great for a baby ball or baby snakes....adult really small stuff like coastal plains milks are ok,,,yet I would like bigger for even them.....

and I broke a record last year.....I use them for baby balls....after they hit around 2 years old they need to move up to 28 qt or 34 inch Boaphile Raxx.....but I broke the record here...I actually bred and got 7 eggs from a ball that was still actually housed in the Phillips box....! way too bad....(yes I bred her in a 34 inch, but she lived 95% of the time in her little box and was actually happy....got some pretty spiders het ghost from her too ...she's now in her own 34 incher and should be preggo again to the mojave this time...cheating women....

My back in the day goes back to the early 70's I guess. I started hanging out the same shop I help at now. Same owner too, 46 years. Although back then his younger brother was there and the herp group he was in was a bit older than I.

I still remember a Pete Tolson sp? an actual herpetologist?, (at least a PhD). as I recall, explaining to me all of certain species of whiptails are female. I thought for sure he was yanking my chain lol.

Great years and better memories. Stuff you tell people and they say NO WAY! Back then I went through my lizard phase MANY, then snakes, all the big sp available. Then mammals and birds, mainly parrots. [Thanks mom and dad for allowing the craziness].
Why I stopped around 1980 I'm not sure? I got married, but that was not it. I was still always at the shop I worked at as a kid 72-80, all teh time til present. In fact the one owner is my sons godfather.

Retiring in 98 I eventually got some rats, then Jackson chameleons, then I was hooked again. Funny thing is I went thru a lizard phase, still have a few corns, but into parrots again? I have 5 more rescues coming soon. 2 macaws and a few small birds. My wife is making me build a bird room lol.

It's to bad there can't be an old timers get together, besides a show. It seems everyone knows someone thru someone else. The stories that could be told, and the beer that could be consumed. I love to tell some of my crazy escapades to the younger breed of herpers coming up, but I'll sit back as quiet as a mouse to listen to those elder to me tell theirs.

Damn I miss those times.

oh yea to keep on topic, those boxes we have are stored away so they won't break. Yet as years go by they get more and more brittle.

I got like 17 years till I retire

I had snakes as a kid...outside only, in a coffee can and yes every morning it was empty...so I had snakes for a day only....parents can suck too....LOL....when it comes to critters

around 79 I got my first store bought snake...a 32 inch burmese...grew an inch a week, 9 foot one year and 12 in 2 years (didn't really feed it the second year alot...) never had heat or lights....hmmm...never got sick....had like 15 snakes ....wild stuff....then got turtles then fish...wait...fish were first....like 5 or 6 tanks around the bedroom.....bred mice and did studies on them....made tailess mice for my mother...who said they'd be cuter...but them said they were still mice and not cute...hmmmm.......
got cornsnakes around 82?.....okeetee , real screamers, from good stock...couple lived 25 years or so?......met pet shop type people....people that went south to collect....sat around and talked herps too alot....don't remember all the days....from back then....quit herps....

then in 89 my brother caught a 2 or 3 year old eastern milk and it was so nice I couldn't let it go....10 years later under same rock he got a female for him...and after brumating them the male died...get him a girl and he dies....wow....

bought alot of stuff....learned all the terms around 1990 from a whole new bunch of reptile people...met Zuchowski....bugged him alot...he moved like 2 months later......met alot more people and kept buying and breeding....since 1990 I been doing this , this time around....still have like 160 snakes in celler.....started bringing them up to room today actually......and get like up to 800 eggs a year and hatch like ??? 450 to 550?.....breed alot of mice and use all my time on this stuff......been a looong time..........

and yet ...NO...I am not older than you......I am almost 49....LOL.........
