Cooling Fan...

Jbuggfl Jan 24, 2009 11:15 AM

Ok I rewired my incubator today.. The 1ft strip of 11inch flexwatt is now on the back bottom wall of the mini fridge.. I had problems finding AC/DC cooling fans locally so I went on to ebay and found a USB operated fan for a Nintendo WII which is built strong has a cover case on it and even a on off switch. Its a small fan so I am going to be mounting it with velcro tape..

1. Is where should the fan be mounted in the fridge exactly haveing the flexwatt on the back wall at the bottom and where should it be faceing?

2. Would it be best to have the fan plugged in the wall to run 24/7 and then have the flexwatt hooked to the thermostat only to regulate temp.. Or should I hook fan and flexwatt both into the thermostat?

The best part about my discovery on ebay and the USB powered fan is ..
Fan costed me $5shipped new..
10ft USB extention cord $4shipped new.
USB wall adapter $3shipped new..

Thanks for any help... Goodluck to everyone this season!!!!!!

Ill tell you what I did and it work great so far. I took an old fridge and converted it to 2 zone incubator. Top wiil be 89 and the bottom will be 83. These temps are goog for BP's milksnakes and leopard geckos. The heat on top is 11in flex on the floor with a little fan from Radio Shack on top of it. It circulates the air well and holds solid. the bottom is the same but with more heat tape. Im using 1 herpstat for each level (2 total). running solid for a month now with dead on temps. Hope this helps

Be careful with computer fans some fans run the temp up close to 90 with out the heat comeing on. I once had two fans in a full size upright freezer and had to cut back to one cause temps kept spikeing. Helix has a red warning light that lets you know temp is riseing while in neutral power, thats what saved me. These little computer fan get fairly hot to the touch.
