A "little" Superworm success...*PICS*

Lucien Sep 10, 2003 03:37 AM

I wonder if there's such a thing as too much success when it comes to these guys..I only pupated 20 beetles in the beginning. And the supers in these pictures are just a quarter of what I actually have growing. They're the bigger ones for the most part..but I have another whole drawer full of all sizes... I guess I did something right somewhere *L*

Nice work.

I am curious to know how long it takes them to get to the size you are showing. When I tried breeding superworms once, they took too long to grow up so I scrapped the project because my mealworm colony was doing a whole lot better. What substrate are you using or method to maintain the baby worms to grow?

Its taken about 2 months to get them to that size... Though with the heat lately they've done a bit better as long as it didn't go over 82 or so... My second drawer has some about that size that have only been growing about a month.. I recently changed my mix with them and its stopped some of the cannabilism I was getting of the beetles. I use ground dog food, ground rabbit pellets, dry milk, potato flakes, and ground cereals (I had a couple boxes of stale Kix on hand that I used this time around). For my moisture sources I use greens and veggies. Mixtures of them.. Romaine lettuce, some corn, collard greens or turnip greens. It mixes up the vitamins they get so they get a wide variety of them.
