How old/big should she be?

54podge Jan 24, 2009 10:47 PM

I have a T-Lav Brooks female that I got to breed with my large 06 male. I haven't measured her yet, but I was wondering if there was a certain age or size that she needs to be before she can breed. I believe her to be a late 07 hatchling, and since this will be my first attempt to breed I don't want to risk her health in any way. She has been eating 4-5 hoppers per week. She could eat large mice, but I don't mind the added expense as they seem much easier to choke down!

Thanks

I have bred female Florida kings as small as 20" and never had a problem with their health in later years. That whole thing is a fallicy in the herp hobby much like "powerfeeding" is.

Think of it this way. If a female ovulates she is ready to breed and get her eggs fertilized. Otherwise she is still going through the process just without the sperm from the male.

Thanks. I measured her moments ago and she measured out at 28" so we'll see how this spring goes!
