Ovulating??? *Pics*

fishr Jan 25, 2009 02:59 PM

I'm new to breeding and I'm not sure what look for in ovulation.

My female has been off feed for months and is currently in shed. Is she ovulating in the photos? Thank you.

She can't be in shed and ovulate at the same time.

Doesn't look like an ovulation to me. As a general rule if you have to ask it's probably not - ovulations are wicked obvious.

Thanks Tosha.

I've noticed in my girls that after they've gone through a period of building their follicles they will go into a pre-ovulations shed (this is usually when they start the "glow" and then ovulation is usually a few weeks to a month later. This might be the stage she is entering.

Good luck!

As Tosha said, there will be a glow, then a LONG shed that will last between 14-20 days. I provide jumbo (104 oz.) water bowls at the start of their shed -- as I feel soaking will make them more comfortable. Most of my females laid 25-30 days after pre-lay shed.

Good luck with your breeding. If you pay attention and relax you will do fine. It really is not that difficult. If you provide the right husbandry - that will do most of the work!!!

Below is my Spider girl at 1600 grams last season -- ummm she's ovulating a little. lol

LOL! Um, well, I'd say a "little" is an understatement.

Thank you both for your advice and insight.

Take care.
