I cut back on my snakes 3-4 years ago. I bought a pricey female bloodred to be ready last year and this but she was terrible from day one, and it but a scare in me about my other stuff. But, all is well. But I also did not buy up female bloodreds when I needed to. So I have a lonely large male, and my only female is a possible outcross that came from a breeding project between me and Tim S. Tim the only bad advice you ever gave me was not to keep bloodreds lol. I love them to much. I wish I kept all we produced even if outcrosses. Time to talk my friend, I really need to hear a tom tom tom tom.
That said, that's it! lol A few younger bloodreds warming up. And due to a gracious gift from Jeff Cochran I have 3 08s? 2.1 okeetees. Jeff they are growing nicely.
I may breed my big male to a few shop females and see what I get. I'd sure prefer a few bloodred females for him.
Also nearly the time I get a male suboc for my female. I'm not sure I will catch one this summer? Or buy a morph?
Besides taking in parrots, that's about it for me. I seem to be starting a parrot rescue. I keep getting birds, so my wife told me to make a parrot room. This May it will be 30 years for us, so when I'm TOLD, I do. It just might take a while.
Only one other er pairing up in the house, but I can't talk about it here! lol

Hey Darin. What r u breeding?
I am not really expecting much out of the ordinary this year. Might get some butter motleys, opals, pewters, abbott's okeetees and some lavenders, that will all be new for me this year. Of course I will have all my normal projects on top of that. Thats about it for corns.
I will be producing a few other snakes that will be new for me this year as well.
Hope everyone has a great season.
Can't wait for it to begin!

Not much of anything really. I had a terrible accident this year resulting from some tainted mice I got from a disreputable source (won't go into that here...), and I lost all but five of my collection (including 2.3 '06 pied-sided bloodreds I was hoping to breed this spring!!!).
So, I'm down to a few of my motley/bloodred stock that I've been cultivating for the last five years or so, and an 0.1 amel bloodred. Depending on how my one male holds out, I may or may not have anything interesting to report.
Awful year for me, 2008. Here's to a better '09!

Wow Darin! Truly sorry to hear that. I have to say, if I ever had a set back that big, I would get out of the hobby. I wouldn't be able to handle having to rebuild.
Hope you dont ever have luck that bad again!

Thats just terrible. Like misty said I might just chuck it all. I go nutzo over 1 snake.
Not asking names, but tainted with what?

I don't really know for sure. I just got a batch of mice in, fed my snakes a time or two, and then lost snake after snake over a three week period. By the time I realized what was going on, I was pretty well wiped out.
I was going to bail, but a good friend made me promise him I wouldn't...so I'm just keeping my head above water for now, and I'm thankful for good friends like him!

Again, so very sorry. Reminds me of the time back in the 70's pacheos and newcastle came in on parrots. I never realized it til later in life I probably lost my double yellow head from it. People lost near all their birds. One guy Bill Cerenitti sp? was called the bird man. First guy around to breed leadbeaters and other toos. he lost ALL his birds to the feds, but at least got paid for them. So we heard.
Bottom line it sucks.
I'm starting, or it seems by default I'm becoming a parrot rescue. I'm scared to death about losing my personal birds.
It is amazing how attached we become to our pets. Dogs, cats, birds, rats, spiders, what ever. If you love them it hurts.
But I am glad you had a good friend. That can save your entire perspective view on the loss. I guess, my point is, if you love the stuff, it makes you feel good. The losses are tragic but you can't stop enjoying what you love. And what makes you feel good too.
I hope I said that right.

Thanks Misty! but,the hypo pictured was given to me.I only produced amels, hypos anerys and snows that were het. bloodred. The breeder pr. of bloodreds given to me recently are the parents to the hypo, they are het.granite also. Jeff
Oh man, that's horrible! My gf recently lost her male albino bull snake from what we think was a tainted mouse, and even that was almost more than we could take. He was a sweetie too. I can't imagine losing that many animals. I'm glad you aren't leaving the hobby, though. I admire your strength in that. I don't know if I would be able to do the same.

Jeff,
Do you still have bloodred genes runing around your pack? Those her Ultra lav x same offspring have some bloodred characteristics like the erased middle belly checkers.
Everything is cooling now, even the o8's. I'll bring them up in a few weeks.

don't think I have bloodred in them...well...I didn't put it there.....some might have a motley look to them but don't know why that is either.....
....I have corns in my world now.....all the same all just "corn"......doesn't matter around here anymore......sad.....noone even looks at any corns at shows at times.....some shows they don't look at anything......LOL......
.......
.......did I ask you if you have a brother that might have been eating lunch at a restaurant in Havre De Grace about a year ago?......looked just like you I swear......(I was there with my brother)......
....hopefully it gets warmer for Hamburg next month...like at least 38 degrees.....HA!......

No brothers, like corns we all start to look alike after a while...
LOL
I suppose the blank stripe down the belly is not just seen in het bloods.
You expet to have some fires this year, huh When will you start warming up the critters?
I seem to remember you had some surgery or something. I hope you are feeling well.... maybe I'll see you at Hamburg.
just gall bladder removal...(forget the real ectomy word...LOL)......no sweat nowadays......in and out in a few hours...and they screwed around 2 hours more than I wanted to...actually they all went home.....fed mice a little that night and was feeding the big balls the next morning......most people who take the oxycodone sleep after a pill.....I was wired and working for a week straight on them...!....even though you should not clean or feed snakes or rodents after having any operation......sort of a don't try this at home thing.......
......hopefully it doesn't snow at Hamburg......

I have two female okeetees I plan to breed plus,I may breed my locale Miamis.Other than that,I have a nice pr. of Simus and some garters! Jeff

Forgot to mention,I plan to breed my male fire bloodred to a bloodred het. granite! Jeff P.S. He's het. anery.
I had about 15 breedings slated for this year, but because I have some many 08's remaining, not worth my time to go full tilt and produce more mouths than I can deal with..
3 maybe four breedings..
Normal het blood, charcaol (coin toss het ), stripe X Normal het Amel, chracoal, stripe and blood..
Potosi X Potosi
Amel Corn X Grey Rat ( White Oak Phase I believe )
and maybe
Ghost ( out crossed keys ) X Anery ( out crossed keys )..
Regards.. Tim of T and J
Tim,
Let us know is you are successful in making Ultras with the gray rat cross.
Why of course.. I have no qualms providing my results at all.. If I under stand this correctly, I should have ultramel like animals in the first cross.. Now lets hope I am sucessful in getting the hook up, this wil be my first attempt at making a hybrid cross so......
Regards.. Tim of T and J
Hey Jeff, you are going to breed that Fire this year, right? Do you have a pair of fires or are you doing a fire to bloodred?

My lone bloodred male needs a girlfriend. I have a bunch of het bloods from last year.
Here is his baby picture.

Well, this year I have twice as many pairs as last year! The total is 2! lol I have a ghost pair and a rev okee with a sunglow motley (I'm pretty sure het stripe). The sunglow motley was supposed to be paired with a friend's sunglow motley, but he was abducted by aliens or something and I haven't heard from him in months. Oh well. Still gonna be fun!
