mid-March in Coastal North Carolina...

westernNC Jan 26, 2009 07:00 PM

I'm scheduled to work down east from March 17-20. I would typically schedule mid-April, but I'm going on business and have to go when business calls. Just wondering if anyone on here has herped near the NC (or SC) coast in March with any success. Don't want specific locations, just whether I should get my hopes up or not...

Thanks,
Michael

Michael,
Mid-March is a great time for the low country if you get sunny cool days.

These were from early March last year.

I looked back at some records from 2007. I found an eastern king, hognose, cottonmouth, and a few others on March 23 that year in New Hanover County, NC. I guess, like you said, it all depends on the weather.

Thanks again for following up. I'm very impressed with your skills in spotting those rat snakes!

Michael
