Help with cats & collared

twsmith Jan 26, 2009 08:36 PM

Ok, my damn cats have broken one night bulb and now they've broken the $50 ceramic heat emitter I picked up last week. Any ideas to keep my cats from trying to jump on top of the terrarium short of kicking them outside or moving the terrarium into a different room? I used to have a supersoaker that worked wonders for keeping them off the table but my wife chucked it out because she didn't like me shooting water in the house.

I have cats and the two youngest pretty much gave up getting at my collareds when they couldn't jump on the cages or the unit I have them on. I purchased an entertainment set made for plasma screen tv's you know the 60 plus inch units. Anyway it's a flat top and wide enough to only provide 2 inches of room on either sides of the cages. I'd put them either higher or remove any jump places where they can get onto of the cages.

Maybe a spray bottle instead of a full sized super soaker? Or a little watergun?

Hey,

Maybe instead of water go for loud sounds. Like those really loud screaming sound blasters people sometimes have at basketball games.

But I'm not sure what effect that might have on the lizards!

You could also put some kind of "cage" over the light fixture. Some kind of screen box or metal crate, just large enough to put the fixture under.
You can squirt those kitties til the cows come home and I doubt it will matter much. Cats can get very, very used to being sprayed or rained on. A tank full of frisky little lizards chasing crickets around is just way too interesting for them not to be fascinated by.

Tape. Cats generally don't like the feeling of tape on their paws so if you put some double-sided tape (or just make those little tape roll things) on the cage where they'll step on them, it ought to make them stop jumping up there. My boyfriend's cat used to love to jump up on my crested gecko's tank in the middle of the night or while we were gone and her bulk was ripping the wire mesh out of the lid. She only needed to land on that tape strip once and she never jumped up there again even after we got rid of the tape.
