Prehensile Tailed Skinks

Ghost425 Sep 10, 2003 07:38 AM

Can anyone recomend a breeder who is offering Crucia zebrata (besides lllreptile)? I would really appreciate it as the animal will be a gift for my brother. Thanks!

An animal is not recommended as a good gift to anyone. Even if the individual is a responsible person, the commitment is one that I feel people should make on their own. Particularly with lizards, the requirements of properly caring for the animal cannot be taken lightly. Sure, most of us know enough about owning a dog or cat to do a half-decent job if one was given to us. But a prehensile-tailed skink has very specific husbandry requirements to do well in captivity.
Needless to say, all of the above does not apply to an experienced keeper of lizards or someone who already has a prehensile-tailed skink.
Please take the above in the best light possible. It is sincerely well-meant.

I understand your concern. My brother and i both have myrad collections of various animals, some large some small, including several different skinks. He loves skinks more than anything, and has been dying to get a prehensile tailed skink, but they are expensive; i was therefore going to buy one for his birthday. LLLReptile has them for 200$, and i have ordered from them before and been somewhat... unhappy... whith the results. Do you have any ideas?
thanks

All I can say that the forum will (hopefully) allow is that I have about the same thing to say with regard to LLL Reptile. Shop around -- it can't hurt. In particular, I'd strongly recommend you try to get a captive-bred specimen. More expensive probably but by far the right thing to do.
Best of luck with your new addition.

Do you know of anyone off the top of your head?
thanks!

You'll just have to contact the sellers on the classifieds and see if anyone at least claims to have a captive bred one.
Good luck.

I think still has a sub-adult male CB PTS. They have a few employees that have breeding pairs, and offer CB youngsters occasionally. I have purchased animals and supplies there and have been happy with them.
