Couple from today

Here's a few shots of one of the "sisters" I watch from time to time. This old girl was thermoregulating under cover near her den under cover of tall grass, something I have not seen before. I always see these girls out in the open sunning or under trees with dappled sunlight but in view. I guess the times I didn't see them they were probably doing this, lol! This is one of the two that I last saw together in Feb. last year gigging frogs. This one is fat and healthy, likely cooking eggs right now.

She seems to have a healing scar on her face/neck, likely from courtship. I saw a Texas whiptail, ground skink, med gecks, and a single gulf coast toad, all under cover. Also seen were many red-tailed hawks, caracaras, many dor racoons and skunks, 1 live javelina, and 4 live,1 dor armadillos. Things can't be bad when you see armadillos!

Dan,
If you like those armadillos, come out to Austin one summer... they're like flies- all over the place!

I got 2 calls last summer for removal/relocation...

Here and there, they are abundant where they are abundant, lol! I used to see a lot of them in the post oaks of north Texas some 35 years ago, I usually see them as armored pancakes. They don't see too well.

Yeah, and when they're on the road and you honk to get them off, they jump straight up!
