Smell from Oil filled raidiator heater..

VFR Jan 28, 2009 07:23 AM

Once and a while I get an ordor from my oil filled raidiator heater. I was working over it today cleaning some tubs and I started getting a headache. Can the oil burned from an oil filled raidiator heater be toxic to a boa?

There might be something wrong with your heater if your getting smells from it. I use oil filled heaters and never got any head aches or smells from them. If you want a good one which is what i use in my reptile room go to Delonghi.com they have the best oil heaters around and thay have thermostats that will save you money (Believe me on that)and there not exspensive at all.

grogansilver, I have the same exact heater and I love it! It has been running great for 2 years now. VFR, it did smell in the very beginning when it was breaking in, but never since. Adam

Is the thermostat that's in the unit not sufficient?

That smell from new units may just be the curing of new paint.

I noticed in the past when I used them, that if they are fairly new they can tend to smell when they heat up, I don't think its harmful, but I thought of it as a break in period, the newness had to wear off, the smell eventually went away after some use and the breakin period was over.

If you have had it a long time, then I would be cautious about it...If it gave you headache there might be something wrong with it...

Best of luck...

It had that odor when I first used it in the middle of December. The same smell came back about 3 days ago and it's been on and off.
