Progression of a Jungle Carpet Python...

DavidKendrick Jan 28, 2009 11:25 AM

Well, we produced a clutch of Jungles in 07' And only kept back the runt of the clutch as it was a picky feeder, well its doing great now, but definatley did not turn out as good as the others in the clutch. This is the hard/fun part of working with Jungle Carpets, you never know how a baby is going to turn out...This one got delt the muddy hand...but I still like her.

Here she is as a hatchling....

And what she looks like now...

The ugly duckling? Geese, I can only imagine what the swans looked like because that one is pretty darn handsome!

Its always suck a crap shoot with Jungles, These are NOT siblings but examples of what I like about Jungle Carpets...

I have some updated sibling pics if your interested in seeing them, a friend has two siblings and they turned out pretty nice, one in particular.

There is a saying (not sure if its true) that "Dud's can throw Poppers, and Poppers can throw Duds" So really you just never know, but the chances of producing poppers is greater with Popper Parents...ya know.

The interesting thing about her is that she was produced by a fully striped female and a totally banded male, it seems the striping is somewhat genetic as roughly half of the clutch came out striped and the other came out banded...

Pic of two of the siblings..

Parent pics (I wish I still had them)

The one on the left is remarkably similar to that weird pic taken by John Weigle in the Barker's book, and elsewhere. The one taken in it's matural environment. Know which one?

Maybe it could breed true like that.

Is it this one?

You might have experienced before that one or two snakes that you have sold and it just bothers you for ever!! Like an itch you can't reach...that nagging, haunting..."I shouldnt have sold those"....yeah...you get the idea...That is my top regret, selling that pair of Jungles...I sold all of the offspring, and only held back the one runt...Dang..

I had a female EXACTLY like the one in your picture... If I didn't know any better I'd say it was that exact snake it's so similar. Of all the jungles I've kept over the years she was by far the prettiest but unfortunately she was sick when I bought her and didn't last more than a few months.

I'm growing up a striped pair that are similar, but not quite the same caliber.

If you decide to part with any nice striped specimens drop me a line... photonaturalist@gmail.com
