I have noticed that some people / breeders / companies have baby corns at odd times of year.

Now, i take my snakes out of brumation around mid Feb and have babies around june-ish, early July . This is because I do not have artificial heat, cooling. I use natures' temps.

For everyone out there, what are your schedules like? I know of at least one breeder that is expecting hatchlings in march ?

Just curious about everyones times, whatnot.

I do the same thing as you. I've even seen babies posted here that have hatched on Christmas or New Year's Day. I think you have to have some pretty good temperature and lighting control to do that, and I wouldn't mind getting details from people who've done it.

I don't plan on changing my ways though - the natural light and temperature cycles are a convenient way to go and with the market being so saturated, I don't think it's all that advantageous anymore to have offspring available 2 or 3 months before everyone else. There might have been a time when it made financial sense, but I don't know if it still does.

I think some of those early hatches are actually late hatches from the previous year. Some breeders just don't waste much time on picky eaters, and they'll brumate them early, if they have the refrigerator space available. Oddly, a lot of picky eaters will eat if they're brumated for a while.

They come out of the cold hungry, and the same size they were four months earlier...

Not saying that they're all that way, but I know some that do this regularly.

Yep........don't eat, brumate it...works for alot of other species...lots of poeple don't do it with corns...they just dump them......

lots of them are probably also second late and even third clutches from the same females.....

and alot of people sell "babies" that just aren't fed well and are still really small.....all year......

....yes, some people have normal breeder stuff for normal summer clutches and another set of breeders they actually try and brumate and breed at opposite times of the year....(summer brumate winter bred).....lot of work I think...LOL.....and to have the correct temps all year.....I don't have room...I have one "room"

........ME...I am pulling and feeding mine now...males started and a few oddballs....fed one hopper the other day....feed more this weekend and pull girls in a week or two.....I get eggs from June till August or so....?.......

I know of a few breeders that changed their schedules to have hatchlings earlier then the "norm" to get a jump on sales.
I usually put mine "down" around Thanksgiving and bring them back up in early to mid February.

we had 2 corns together for teh heck of it a few months back. I think she laid 10 eggs? and most hatched 2 weeks ago.

The shops light cycle does not change. Maybe? Some snakes will just breed year round with long day cycles? Not all but a few?

I know of a breeder or two that start brumating in August.. they use light cycles and AC units to do just that.. There is lot of information about changing brumation schedules.

My guys have been down since Nov, and because i am getting warmer temps here I am pulling them up and feeding.. I don;t care how many ovalate this year, I really don;t think it is worth my while to breed this year.. To many people breeding to much stuff does not help an unknown breeders sales one bit..

Tom - I know there was one other person that used to post her, I think it was Kat that said she didn't brumate either.
I have had snakes that did not brumate, mate. Although, i did notice in these cases, the clutches were smaller. Not saying that is always so, just what I noticed in the couple of cases that I have dealt with.

I pretty much just follow what my gf does, since she's the more experienced keeper/breeder. Last year, however, she tried artificially changing the brumation with temps and light, and I feel it would have worked, if we hadn't had a heating problem in our apartment. Last season's brumation was delayed, and then cut short, and as a result her baby season was a bust. My lone breeding female produced an amazing and healthy clutch, however. This year, with more reliable heating, we've been trying the same artificially early brumation, and I've already seen some courtship behaviour. She's even witnessed copulation.
