Hey guys, I have been given a neonate king from a University Herpetologist because he had problems getting it to eat. It's a lot smaller than I thought the snake was actually going to be when I was talking to him over the phone.

Needless to say, I got the snake to eat a pinkie thigh within 10 minutes in my possession! And then another thigh about half an hour later.

I know all the proper care concerning the species. I have a L.g.c. and a L.m.t but I'm not sure what this snake's ssp is. I always though we had Eastern kings around here, but this little guy looks like a speckled.

Or maybe I'm slightly confused and Eastern kings can be "speckled" or "chained"?

As far as I know there aren't any "pure" chain kings in Tennessee. What you have there is a typical Black king. As juveniles they look very similar to juvenile speckled kings.

Once you get on the other side of the Appalachians you get pure chain kings.

Good job on the pinkie parts!Get it on whole as soon as it will let you! I guess blacks are very similar if not exactly the same in maintenance as speckled kings, start off small and once going take off pretty well.
