vanilla question

cfr Jan 28, 2009 08:26 PM

Could someone post a pic of a vanilla please? I know that is one of the enhancing morphs when mixed with others, but would like to see one, maybe beside a normal. Have seen some claimed as vanilla, but could honestly not see much of a difference in some of them from normal. Is it a really subtle morph? Thanks in advance for your help.

Here are a couple pics of two of my vanillas. They are a subtle morph, but definitely lighter and prettier than a normal. Also, the heads seem quite distinctive. They seem to make things that they are crossed into better, and the super vanilla is a cool morph on its own. I'm also discovering that they really do get prettier as they get older.

Those are very good examples of the morph. In my time working with the morph (since 04), I would say they are subtle up to about 250g and then they explode with color and in no way look like normals. One of the best things about them is that they do awesome things with other morphs. The advantage the vanilla trait has over others that do this such as the fire, is that the super version of the vanilla isn't white which is very handy when making combos that stand out from the rest. If you haven't seen the super vanilla hypo or super vanilla pastel in person than you are missing alot.

Vanillas make vanillas. They are their own morph, not a combo. There is a super form of them. They are pretty on their own, but are mostly used as an enhancing gene when combined with other morphs.

Thanks for the pics Josh! Is that a vanilla pastel in the last pic? Do you have any pics of the aforementioned super vanilla pastel or super vanilla hypo? Or maybe just a super vanilla? As I asked maki, is there a distinctive belly pattern to look for in hatchlings? Thanks again for your help.

I heard from Sheila at GC Reptiles, and she wrote, "To date we have made the following Vanilla morphs:
Vanilla
Super Vanilla
Vanilla Blonde Ghost
Super Vanilla Blonde Ghost
Vanilla Orange GHost
Super Vanilla Orange Ghost
Vanilla Pastel
Super Vanilla Pastel
Super Pastel Vanilla
Vanilla Spider
Vanilla Bee ( Vanilla Pastel Spider )
Vanilla Mojave
Vanilla Yellowbelly
Vanilla Black Pastel ( Brass Ball )
Vanilla Pewter
Vanilla Butter
Vanilla Butter Ghost
Vanilla Butter Pastel"

She was kind enough to share some pics and here are just a few, posted with her permission:
Super Vanilla Blonde Ghost

Super Vanilla Pastel

Vanilla Bee

This last pic is mine, a vanilla pastel

Hope this helps.

I know I have to breed him to tell but do you think this looks Vanilla-ish. I got him from a guy who said he was a morph but couldn't remember what it was called. He wasn't the best owner in the world. He also looks a little YB-ish. or Fire-ish

Very nice .

Thanks for the pics! I see the distinctive head pattern. Other than being prettier than normals, is there anything else to look for in young vanillas, since the true colors aren't as clear until later in life? Is there a distinctive belly pattern to look for? Thanks again for your help.

My understanding is that the bellies are not distinctive on vanillas. I just looked at mine, and one has a clear belly, the other not as much.

Our super vanilla from GCR is/has been very distinctive as a hatchling . She is very stiking ...of course she is a super form .
