In case you missed it - vet visit.....

rainbowsrus Jan 28, 2009 09:44 PM

Took Fluffy to the vet today and while not finding anything wrong is not certain, the vet did find Fluffy to be healthy and strong. Found nothing wrong with him other than the color loss. But then again, Fluffy does have a color loss history so this may very well be another stage or could clear up later. Only time will tell.

No abnormalaties found in palpation,
Noted strong muscle tone,
Good body mass,
Scales show no sign of fungus or other irritation,
Alert, inquisitive and not holding still,

All signs of a typical BRB!!

He is going to research this further with his online resources, but does not think thsi is anythin more than his genetics.

On a side note, even though he's a "shadow of his prior self" He's allllllll over Ann tonight, very aggressively courting her. Has not affected his libido whatsoever!!!

Took some pics, will post em up later, got errands to run right now.

Yeah, when I first saw him, it was "wow, where'd all the color go" I looked hime over and other than the missing pigmentation, he otherwise was fine. I assumed from that it was probably related to his prior pigmentation loss. Then when I posted up pics and several were concerned, I got concerned. Of course had this shown up in any other snake than Fluffy I would have been concerned from the get go.

So from here, it's a wait, watch and see kinda thing.... wonder what next shed will show?

Thats great to hear the vets opinion. I found the original thread quite interesting, first i was like oh my good, that looks crazy cool, then arghh some people have some pretty good points. Opnion kept on going back and forth.

I guess it just Fluffy taking you on a whole new adventure

As for Vets, i recently contacted the pretty much only specialist vet here. Just wanted to explain what i had in my collection, and so that i know the person, if ever needed. Might even get her to come around, and arrange like a yearly visit. Never can be too careful i guess

LOL, we were on the same page!!!

I always recommend finding a vet in your area BEFORE you need one. I've been seeing this guy for a while and he seems quite competent. He's even performed surgery to drain an abscess on one of my BCI's nose - infected nose rub.

Fluffy has been working Ann all evening, and towards the end, visual copulation......

Early on, note tails are towards the front of cage..

Later on tails are towards the rear, Fluffy is working that girl on top position....

Money shot, note Fluffy's spur towards the bottom right of the pic....

... might be good. It will be a whole lot easier for me to make a stupid rhyming pun with "Once you go white, ..." than "Once you go calico, ..."

Thanks,
Ed

Maybe but then again, "once you go white...." is sooo over done???

Dave,
...This has me thinking that the recent color change may have been hormonally triggered. This might also explain the first color change when the snake approached or reached sexual maturity. The big color change from washed out back to normal color a day or two before my snake Caat99F3 delivered her litter may have also been hormonally triggered?

I've always believed the onset of the Calico trait to be related to (or triggered by) hormonal changes related to breeding cycles. The only two specimens I know of both changed color at or after reaching sexual maturity. Only time will tell how his colors evolve.

Great news for sure, and even better that there is no skin blistering or irritation. And it sure hasn't diminished his sex drive...

Thanks,
