You keep a pair of black racers? I thought I was the only one crazy enough to do that. I have one I use for programs that is very easy to handle (unusual for a racer). How are yours to handle? Mine will also eat thawed mice.

By the way, nice bps!

I do keep Black Racers. Or at least I have been. They were purchased from a local pet store by a gentleman who decided fairly quickly that he knew not what he was getting into. I got them from the guy when he tried returning them lol. Anyway, my wife has decided they have to go because we are expecting a baby in a few weeks and there cannot be any "mean" snakes in the house. Their tempraments vary by the day it seems, but generally the female is pretty mellow as long as you let her do her thing. The male though is named Diablo for a reason...lol. He would rather you not handle him ever and tries to dart/musk/bite when the opportunity comes along. I've tried and tried to get them eating f/t, but no luck yet.

Mine is a wild caught that I brought home to use in a program for boy scouts. I treated it like a venemous snake when I found it, because I am past that time in my life where it is cool to be lit up a dozen times by a black racer, then musked on. I only found out how laid back he was accidentally, when I had to move him to put a clean water bowl in his cage. He never even threatened to bite. During the program, I handled him for 15 min, and carried him around the room. He took a thawed mouse the first time I offered it, just threw it in the cage and he took it. Have only seen a racer like this one time before. Usually, if it's not biting you, it's dead! Decided not to release this one after the program. He's earned an easy life with me and lots of programs to come.
